In continuation to my Part-I of The Online Marketing Game, here’s the second most important rule about Online Marketing Game is:

Focus: When I started my online business, I used to subscribe to whatever came on my way. I used to think, I have struck Gold with this email or website, and I will be rich in another 5 minutes or 7 days or 30 days. I used to create websites and stick banner after banner on them, log into the affiliate area of the vendors to find out that there was not even one click on my website. When I think of those days, I know how many valuable hours or days I wasted doing nothing but wasting my time. Slowly I realized that all Internet Masters have a niche of their own.

Think of any Online Marketing Guru and you will see that they are specialist in their field. They are not all over, though at times they may try to sell you whatever comes on their way (power of powerful list). Hence, to succeed in Online Marketing one has to be focused. Start with something that you feel you will succeed in. (I know, you feel you will succeed in everything every time you visit a new website or read a new email). Believe me, keep yourself updated, but do not lose focus from where you want to carve a niche. Be it Adsense, Affiliate Marketing, Adwords, Membership sites, selling info products etc. Slowly you will realize that your focus is paying you dividends. The cost of learning in Online Marketing is sometimes very expensive. I believe focus is what you need initially. Once you are on the track, you can try out new things.

The Online Marketing Game

Part-I

It was sometime in the month of June 2006 when I Googled "work from home" and till now has been a long journey for me in Online Marketing or Internet Marketing. Since then I must have signed up for, I don't know how many mailing lists, received the "GREATEST" product or "GET RICH IN 5 MINUTES FROM NOW" etc, CRAZY. When I look back at those valuable times which I wasted, I really regret. Actually, its not your fault. You fall into a trap which has been laid for you.

Anyways, During this short time, I think I have learnt a lot about Online Marketing, hence sometimes I believe I invested those valuable time in learning, rather than investing my time in the "Business". In the process I have even made deep holes in my pocket several times.

What I conceive now is that Online Marketing is just like any other business. You need to learn a lot, invest in learning (burn your fingers), testing, reading a lot and a lot of research.

The biggest trap that we fall into in Online Marketing is “ GET RICH NOW”, “THE BIG DOLLARS”, “THE EASY WAY”, “THE SHORTCUT TO SUCCESS”, “THEY WILL HOLD YOUR HAND”, “THE CLOCK ON YOUR SCREEN TICKING AWAY”, “JUST FOR TODAY OFFER”, “BRAND NEW OFFER”, “NEVER BEFORE” etc. Don’t get fooled by these offers. The problem is that even if you want to find out more about the product, you will land up in a review with an affiliate link, very unfair. I doubt, if the reviewer has himself brought the product at the first place.

What I want to convey through this write up is very simple about Online Marketing. I am not an Online Marketing Guru or a mentor, but as a layman I would like to request my friends who are venturing or into Online Marketing to follow some universal rules about Online Marketing.

Time: If we have something in life which is irreversible is Time. We all know it, but, we all hardly follow Time Management. We always get embroiled into what is urgent and what is important. Note, both words have different meaning. An important task becomes urgent at the last minute not the reverse. So, learn to differentiate between what is urgent and what is important. As I read somewhere, we all maintain a dairy where we write what to do, why don’t we try to write a diary where we jot down what not to do. Schedule your day and stick to it, what may come. Get yourself out of distracting things, like chat windows, music, and email windows while you are concentrating on something important. Just think about it, if you were into any other business other than Online Marketing, will you be wasting your time doing unnecessary things. Treat Online Marketing as any other business.

New Google Advertisement Format

I recently noticed this new advt. format of Google in one of my blog. They have introduced a scroll icon on some formats that I have seen. If you click on the scroll, you can see more related ads in Google Adsense. The ads can be scrolled up and down. Google has always proved itself to be innovative and with this innovation, it will give its users more value addition. As of now users were limited to the number of ads served in a specific format. Now for the same space, Google shows up more ads. I think this is a great innovation. MSN and YPN needs to wake up. We need more from you guys.

For Google critics, I think this is one more step in proving themselves that Google is not here to make only money but also to provide value to its users and advertisers.

I think Google is still testing this ad format, as the new Google advertisement format does not consistently appear.

The ten day row between EBay and Google comes to an end with EBay announcing that it plans to resume Pay Per Click Advertising with Google. The row started when Google tried to woo EBay customers to a rival payment system.

Google has officially announced that they have acquired FeedBurner the Chicago-based company that provides media distribution and audience engagement services for blogs and RSS feeds. It is beleived that this acquisition was done at $100 million.

How To Become ICANN-Accredited Registrar For Domain Registrars

First you would first like to know who is ICANN- ICANN stands for "Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers". Is the principal technical coordination body. In a laymans language they are the registrars for business enterprises, govt. body, individual etc, who deals with domain registrations.

To become a ICANN-Accredited Registrar, you will have to apply for Registrar Accreditation with ICANN with a non refundable $2,500 fee. The application will go through a review process.

Once your application has been reviewed, ICANN will inform you through email whether your application was approved or not. Once it's approved, you will have to Sign an Accreditation Agreement with ICANN and Pay Accreditation Fee. ICANN will then send you a copy of the agreement alongwith the invoice for annual fixed portion of the accreditation fee. At the time of writing this post, a yearly accreditation fee of $4,000 p.a. was applicable. Other conditions include that you have atleast $70,000 as working capital. This need not be paid to ICANN, but, you will have to provide proff to ICANN that you own the capital.

Once you return the signed agreement and pay your accreditation fee, ICANN will notify the applicable registries of your accreditation and add you to the list of registrars at http://www.icann.org/registrars/accredited-list.html. The registry operators will then contact you to sign agreements and work out financial and technical details.

To add a header image to your blogger.com blog, go to Template and select the first tab i.e. Page Elements. Just below the Navbar, you will see a widget, the {your blog title}(Header). You will see a Edit link. Click on the edit link and a new window will appear. Now you can add your header image either by uploading an image file from your local hard disk or from a image URL, if you have hosted your image file under some other URL. Save changes before you close the window (once you save the window closes automatically)

You also have the option to display only the header in place of The Blog Title and Blog Description.To display only the image header, after you have saved repeat the steps above and click edit header again. A new window opens up. You will see your image and the options 1. Behind Title and Description 2. Instead of Title and Description. Chose whichever layout you want and save. You can change the image header anytime you want by going to edit the header widget.

I recently tried the 7 day free trail of rsstoblog in one of my blogs. I also created a blog to see if it really works. I thought that it would help me in getting my ranking higher in the search engines as it claims. The posts that it made was full of keywords which I thought would be tempting for the search engines.

Believe me, the site which was indexed earlier by google got deindexed. I tried to find out the reason. After lot of research, I found out that rsstoblog has been posting rubbish to my blog stuffed with keywords which are not even relevant to the blog. Google punished the blog. I deleted the posts made by rsstoblog after that. Even after that my blog has not been indexed by Google.

Hence you need to research a lot before using an automated blogging software. The lessons I learnt from this experiment:

Never seek short-cut methods to success.
Do not go with the hype in the Sales Letter.
Do not risk your indexed blog / site with any new tool. You will be punished by the Search Engines.

Bearing this in mind, it is only logical then that at the outset all you are thinking of is making money very quickly with your new home internet business. Disappointment soon sets in when you are not seeing the immediate returns you expected. You realize that your dreams of buying a Ferrari or Porsche next month are not going to materialize!

This is the reason a lot of people quit their home internet business in the very early stages. Either their expectations were far too high or they were just not aware of what it actually takes to build and profit from an online home business.

A million $$$ question. Well few things one should keep in mind is that, once you venture into this addictive "business" as I call, ask yourself the following questions:

* Am I serious about this business?
* Will I be able to give time (quality time)?
* Do I have the power to sustain failures?
* How much can I invest?
* What am I good at?
* Where do I see myself in the next few months, years?
* What is that I want to do?

Like any ordinary business, you will have to take this as a serious business. I have not heard of anyone who has earned money so easily over the internet. You will come across various hypes about getting rich overnight, in some cases in seconds. Believe ne those are rubbish. Those rich internet marketeers have slogged and worked hard to acheive what they are today.

One most important thing before you start. Will you be able to give quality time to your business. As I said earlier, this is a like any other business. Infact internet marketing is more dynamic than any other business. You have so much of competition and your competitiors are keeping their eyes and ears open. When you begin you should be able to give your maximum time to the business. If you think that I will give part time and earn $$$ then forget it. You are day dreaming!

Failures are an inevitable part when you are starting. The old saying "Failure is the Pillar of success", the same applies here too. Suddenly you will start getting unlimited emails to your mailbox full of offers. Some of them are really irrestible. Just read and ignore. Most of them will waste your time and break your concentration. As I said, give yourself time to decide what you want to do or what interests you.

Most starters in Internet Marketing try out various softwares to build adsense pages. I have used them myself and can tell you how useful or useless they are. Did you know that all high paying keywords does not pay the same when it comes to adwords for content. If you log in to your google adwords account and select a campaign summary and go to edit campaign setting on your top right screen you will see this setting. Do you see the content bids ? Advertisers can set seperate prices for content bids i.e for adsense publishers. To my feel most advertisers will set seperate price for content for the simple reason. Why should I set my CPC on content network the same as search networks. Users searching for a keywork are more likely to click on my ads as they will be relavent to what they are looking for. The latest update on Google TOS on Competitive Ads and Services says that competitive ads and services using the same layout and colors and search boxes like google adsense will not be allowed on pages displaying google adsense. This means you will not be able to use YPN ads on the same page displaying Google adsense. Selling other ads are allowed as long as they do not resemble any adsense ads. Can you sell banner ads of the same format like adsense banners ...? watch out.

I was just accepted by Kontera for text adlinks for one of my blog's. I have seen sites putting up adsense and Kontera ads together. Confused, I googled and came up with search results. One of the search results had this name called John Chow the blog mogul so on. Inquisitive, you all know how we are, I went to the blog. Its his personal blog. A neatly done blog. Very impressive. Still wanting to know more I went to one of his navigation button saying "who is John Chow". Nick named "moto" he lives in Vancouver in Canada and is the site owner of www.thetechzone.com which reviews computer hardware. I liked his post called the Internet's Biggest Google Whores where he list's top 8 publishers of google adsense. Very impressive figures, just check it out. He's given opportunity to even review his blog to fellow bloggers. He offers a free link back for a reveiw of his blog. He has given away Televisions and has paid for reviews in his previous "review my blog's". John Chow's blog ranks 909 with 3239 links from 1276 blogs in Technorati as of writing this blog. As a struggling internet marketer Iwas really impressed by the way he has incorporated his affiliate and other links. The blog is monetized in various ways. Just go to Advertise and you will see.

A very successful Adwords guide came out a few months back. You may or may not have heard of it. I did not buy it then. I read there would be additions to it. So I waited.

It makes some very bold claims, such as "earn $300 a day" For most folks that is a lot of money. It is written by a guy who was new to internet marketing when he started, and through trail and error was able to raise his income to over $1000 a day and increasing. Can anybody do this?

Let us break it down, lift the curtain and see what is under there.

Can it really be true?

Let us find out.

Inside we encounter four main sections, as follows:

Section One: This gives a good grounding of the basics of how adwords works. Many people who already use Adwords will have this knowledge. But for those who do not, it is a handy primer.

Section Two: This section covers writing ads, which most would agree is vital to Adwords success. And it covers it well. I especially liked the "Well, duh" method. So simple but very effective. And assures us it is idiot proof. Which means even the least experienced Adwords marketers can be effective with most of their ads fast.

Section Three: This one tackles campaign management. A very important section. If only because you always need to keep your spending as low as possible while testing. Covers this in decent detail.

Section Four: Finally we get into the meat of the book. This covers some very good stuff. Probably the most valuable of which is "the skimming method", where it teaches you how to obtain cheap clicks. Rather cleverly thought up. I've tried it myself and it works. The real trick is as always, finding the gem of a niche.

This section also covers how to use the "Google Cash Method for 2006" Did you think it was dead? Google cash can work, just in certain circumstances, which are outlined in the book.

In the main manual, this section is by far the more important and will have your brain humming with the ideas it produces.

That was the original, and a very good read. However there is more. I'm glad I waited.

As well as the manual itself comes three additional bonuses reports and three videos.

The first report is about choosing affiliate programs to promote on clickbank. Get this wrong and your losses could soar.

He gives you several strategies. Including; how to find hot new clickbank products, and the "Clickbank Dance method.

Either of these alone is worth the cost of the manual.

Another bonus report is how to build a list using adwords. Anyone who is eager to build their own list needs to check this report out.

Now, last, but certainly not least, is the advanced report. It covers such topics as, protecting your affiliate commissions, "Dynamic Keyword Insertion" that is becoming better known now. Have you heard of it? Also, he gives you his top five niches to promote. This part I found very valuable.

Lastly, it includes a way around the "Google Slap" you have probably heard a lot about lately. If your bid prices have skyrocketed, or you've been affected by “The Slap” in any way, you need this section.

Finally, there are the videos. There are three of them. The first one covers writing ad copy. I don't know about you, but I love watching videos instead of just reading an ebook. It covers the ebook material in video format.

The second video discusses choosing clickbank products to promote. Again, an addition to the ebook format.

The third video is more standalone talking about different ways to promote products on Adwords as an affiliate.

So the big question is, can you make $300 a day using this ebook?

The true answer is yes, with a qualifier. With time and perseverance, this resource gives you the knowledge you need to make $100s a day. All it needs is action and you will have your first profit machine. Then as you gain confidence and experience you will add more and more of these profit centers. So yes, $300 is quite possible by anyone.

Overall, I would give Adwords Miracle 9/10. I would have liked more videos. I love having videos I can watch on a topic. Hopefully he will include more in the future. Of course, all updates are free to past buyers.

One tactic I discovered has given me an over 36% boost on my campaigns. When I read it, I was Doh! Why didn't I think of that?! So simple, yet very effective.

Anyone who is using Adwords for affiliate marketing, or even using Adwords at all, should get this manual.

I want to share with you a few AdWords tips that will help your advertising campaigns and should impact your bottom line in a positive way. You'll soon see these tips are quite powerful, and in fact are rarely revelaed without money exchanging hands. I'm quite serious about that! Many AdWords e-book authors will probably not appreciate the golden nuggets that I'm about to share, but I could really care less. If you want to increase your click through rate (CTR) and your conversions (sales you make), read on.

Here's the first tip: "Get your headline right". Your headline is by far the most important part of your ad. It's what's going to hook your visitors into clicking on your ad more than anything else. Ad copy is important, but not like your headline. Another reason your visitors will make a decision based on your headline is because Google placed more prominence on your headline than it does the rest of the ad, as evidenced by the size of the font shown in your headline. Take advantage of this! When writing your headline, be sure to focus on benefits of the product or service. Don't focus on the features--the stuff anyone can look up in the table of contents--rather, focus on the intangible realities that using this prodcut or service will bring (i.e., "Eliminate Stress While Growing Rich"). What you'll also want to do is keep testing your headlines over and over, split-testing them until you find one or two that continually bring in sales for the keywords you're promoting.

Let me share with you another tip that you rarely hear. When starting out with AdWords, or even on a new campaign, start small and work your way up. In other words, don't--I repeat, don't--invest a whole lot of money into this new campaign. The only time you should be increasing the amount of money spent on a campaign is when you know for a fact (because you've tested) your campaigns are already converting and you simply want to make more money. Aside from that, you need to start with a modest amount of money on AdWords. When trying to come up with your daily budget, ask yourself this question: "If I were to lose this entire amount of money today, would that be okay?" If the answer is "yes", then you have your daily budget. But don't be afraid to start each campaign with $10 or $15 in the beginning. You really want to test the waters first anyway--no use entering into a market at full force only to find out that the product doesn't sell.

One final tip: Do a little pre-selling in the ad copy. While you don't want to hit your prospects over the head, you do want to let them know that you've got a produt or service for sale. That in order to receive your product or service, money is going to have to change hands. Some marketers even mention the price of the product or service in the ad--in fact, some swear by this tactic. Whether or not you do this, the idea is that you want to weed out those who are only looking for a handout. You want serious buyers to click your ad, because you want those clicks to turn into conversions. There's no sense in getting the click and having a high CTR unless those clicks are turning into cash.

Unlike many search engines Google, to its credit, clearly denotes search listings that are paid placement. In fact, Google AdWords appear in a separate section down the left side of the screen.

Google AdWords provide an inexpensive advertising venue for businesses to advertise products or services to a targeted audience. Advertisers have the ability to control their budget, target their advertising based on keywords. Advertisers are also free to determine the ad contents.

Google AdWords allow for nearly instant traffic, which can be turned on and off. Traffic results can be measured, providing information on what is successful, what isn't and what needs to be changed. AdWords can be found that work by running a test campaign.

Benefits to AdWords
Advertisers bid on keywords, the more an advertiser is willing to pay the higher the likelihood the ad will appear higher in position in the list of ads served. Google, invariably wanting to make the most from advertisers, determines placement based on a combination of click through rate, bid amount and budget. Of course, in order to maximize revenue and please searchers Google does have guidelines for ads served and all ads must receive a minimum percentage click through or they are removed.

AdWord Guidelines
Clearly and accurately describe the website, this is to the advertiser and searchers benefit. Ultimately, the more qualified the visitor who clicks the ad, the higher the likelihood the clicker will convert into a sale. By providing clear and accurate information, searchers who click the ad are qualified leads, which tend to convert more consistently than unqualified leads. The most effective advertising communicates a clear message to a targeted audience.

Avoid excessive capitalization, superlatives and lavish exclamation marks in the ad. By doing this you are not only serving the visitor you are filtering unwanted clicks from non-buyers. Due to space limitations your ad message will need to be concise. Select keywords that are relevant to your product, service or content. Call to action phrases are not allowed (i.e. you cannot use phrases like "click here" in your ad copy.) There are also no pop-ups.

Steps for AdWord Campaign

1.) Open an account

2.) Target language and country - This is very important because if your product or service can not be exported you do not want to pay to advertise in those countries for which your product or service can not be sold.

3.) Create Ad Group - design an ad, select keywords, determine maximum cost per click that you are willing to spend and define bid amounts.

Title
The title tag is generally the most important part of the ad be sure to use a short phrase that gets the attention of your target audience. An underutilized feature at Google allows you to put a question mark in the title, the term searched on automatically replaces the question mark in the title of your ad.

Define max click - Google will suggest a cost per click, but the recommendation does not need to be adhered to. Arguments have been heard that #1 position does not always mean increased sales; sometimes a second position will filter useless clicks and provide targeted traffic with a higher conversion ration. The rule of thumb is positions 1-3 garner the most traffic and best results. Increasing either your maximum cost-per-click or the ads click through rate will generally improve the ad's position.

Use keyword variations to reach more prospects. A variety or spellings and derivatives of keywords will increase the chances of your ads being served. Be sure to use common misspellings and plurals in your keyword list.

Broad match - is targeting keywords in a loosely defined manner. Ads appear based on keywords that have been queried by search users. For instance, if the keywords you are planning on broad matching are "mountain bikes" and users search for the terms "bikes that can climb a mountain", your ad will appear; as opposed to exact match, which requires that the keywords selections must exactly match the query.

Phrase match - is indicated when quotations are used in the phrase. A keyword phrase set to phrase match will only appear when the exact phrase is searched on. For example "mountain bikes" will appear when searchers search for "brand name mountain bikes".

Exact match - is when the keyword or phrase is entered with brackets. The phrase will only serve ads when the entered search phrase is identical to the keyword phrase. "Mountain bikes" will only appear when searchers search for "mountain bikes"

Negative keyword - is helpful in filtering unrelated phrases. A dash is entered before the filtering phrase. "Mountain bike -races will not appear if mountain bike races are searched on.

Landing Page - is important because this not only helps with tracking, but also provides a focused and specific landing page for searchers. Information can be related to the actual search, while also increasing the conversion ratios for sales. A focused landing page with content related and using the same terminology as the actual search, will show the searcher that your solution is relevant to their needs.

3.) Define budget - in order to maximize exposure Google recommends a daily budget for each campaign.

Google's suggested budget is helpful in receiving consistent traffic throughout the advertising campaign. Keep in mind this is only Google's recommendation; ultimately it is up to you to determine a budget that is affordable and suitable.

Google supplies tracking tools that assist webmasters in determining their return on investment based on keyword searches and phrases. While the technology is not perfect and cannot track phone and purchase orders, it should give advertisers a sense of what phrases and keywords are converting well in their advertising campaign.

What is Google Adwords?

If you are looking for one of the most promising and profitable marketing opportunities on the internet today then Google Adwords may fit the bill. It is a pay-per-click advertising system that leverages the capabilities of the most popular search engine in the world today. It allows internet marketers to advertise goods and services through affiliate programs based upon the amount they bid for certain searched for keywords and phrases.

If you look at the right hand side of the Google search window in your web browser those listings are the Google Adwords ads. These are also known as “sponsored links” and internet marketers have paid to have their ads with links to their web sites shown here whenever that particular keyword or phrase is searched on Google.

How does Adwords bidding work?

The first step is account creation. Google will guide you through this process. However, there are several things that one should take into consideration when creating an account. You should take into mind the different strategies that you may want to employ right from the start in terms of the selection of key words and the combinations of these words to be able to maximize the returns on investment using Google Adwords.

You should also target the right market in terms of selecting the right language and countries in which you would want your ads to appear. If you are selling products which would be of no use to citizens of certain countries or if the option of exporting the products is not available, you will want to limit the countries in which your ads are shown. Linking to what you are selling.

Your ad should catch the attention of your prospective buyer. If you have done this well and they click your ad you want to link them to the most appropriate page of the web site where your product is located. You don’t just automatically want to send your prospective buyer to your home page. If they are ready to buy they do not want to have to search through your web site to find what they want. Send them to the product page right away and if you have done your research and ad creation correctly you will be rewarded with a sale.

In 2005 Google introduced site-targeted advertising. Using the AdWords control panel, advertisers can enter keywords of interest, and Google will recommend relevant sites within their content network. Advertisers then bid on a cost per mille (CPM) basis for placement.

AdWords distribution

All AdWords ads are eligible to be shown on www.google.com. Advertisers also have the option of enabling their ads to show on Google's partner networks. The "search network" includes AOL search, Ask.com, and Netscape. Like www.google.com, these search engines show AdWords ads in response to user searches.
The "content network" shows AdWords ads on sites that are not search engines. Google automatically determines the subject of the pages and displays ads for which the advertiser has specified an interest in that subject.
